If you have driven on 45 between Houston and Dallas you can't miss the HUGE statue of Sam Houston. Carson and Christopher have always wanted to stop, but we're usually on a timeline that doesn't allow for extra leisurely time on the road. This time on the way to Dallas I promised them that we would stop and see the statue on the way home. L. came home with us too, so we all got to enjoy a little Texas history.
There were walking paths along the way to the statue and we found this large head. I thought it was kind of strange because it was chopped off at the top and had no marking or plaque letting us know what it was there for. I later asked the lady at the visitor center about it and she said that it was there so that we could see the detail of the statue up close. She also asked Christopher if he had picked Sam's nose :)....yep, it was the first thing he did when he got close enough to it!!
He's tall!
The kids have now fulfilled their dreams of seeing Sam up close and personal. :)
